In a manifesto called „No without women“, fifty Spanish academics, mainly economists, announced on Wednesday that they will not participate in conferences or congresses without at least one expert among their guests.
„The members of this list publicly commit ourselves not to participate as a speaker in any academic event (…) or round table of more than two speakers where there is not at least one woman as an expert,“ they said in the manifesto.
The signatories include members of numerous Spanish and foreign universities, the World Bank and the Bank of Spain.
More than 80 additional experts asked to be included in the list, according to the group’s Twitter account, which is presented as „Spanish academics for the female presence in the Social Sciences.“
Spain has been the scene of a renaissance of the feminist movement, which has claimed in the streets the real equality between men and women.
