Rubén Semedo grabs a player from Astana during a match of the Europa League played on September 14, 2017 in the Spanish city of Villarreal
The young Portuguese defender Villarreal Ruben Semedo was arrested at dawn on Tuesday for a crime of injury and another of illegal detention, a source close to the investigation told AFP.
Semedo remains in custody after being arrested at his home, according to the same source, who did not give further details.
The ‚Yellow Submarine‘, meanwhile, has also opened a file to the player to investigate what happened, while showing „his utmost concern about it.“
„The club will make sure to take the appropriate disciplinary measures with the utmost rigor and forcefulness based on the seriousness of the events,“ Villarreal added in a statement.
According to the newspaper Las Provincias published Tuesday, the player has been arrested after a man denounced on February 12 that „had been tied, beaten and held by Semedo and two other men in the chalet of the football player in Bétera.“
„After immobilizing him and locking him in a room, the individuals took the key from his house and two of them entered the victim’s apartment to steal money, supposedly, or seize something that could compromise or make responsible for some crime. those involved, „adds the newspaper, which cites the complaint filed by the victim.
Semedo, 23 years old, had already been detained for a few hours in November 2017 for allegedly threatening a so-called altercation in a nightclub.
Semedo arrived at the ‚Yellow Submarine‘ last August from Sporting Lisbon, but injuries have prevented him from playing with assiduity.
