The Magi, long awaited by Spanish children, paraded on Friday in many cities in Spain on the eve of the Epiphany, showing in some cavalcades the defense of the LGBT community in Madrid or the independence movement in Catalonia, AFP journalists noted .
It is during the Epiphany, on January 6, when the Magi bring their gifts to Spanish children, and not Santa Claus on December 25 as in other countries.

Many Spanish cities organize „Cabalgatas de Reyes“, in which the three wise men of the biblical tradition parade in horses or camels or, more generally, in floats, throwing candies and small gifts to children.
In the capital, thousands of people braved the rain to see Gaspar, Melchor and Baltasar parade up on a float illuminated with golden tones, like their costumes.

Also in Madrid, the parade of the popular neighborhood of Vallecas, criticized by the conservatives for the presence of a ‚drag-queen‘ in one of the floats that accompanied the Magi, was held without incident.
At the tail of the parade, the ‚drag-queen‘ „The Forbidden“ appeared dressed in a pink plush pajamas, climb to a chariot „for equality“ decorated with the rainbow flag.
In Catalonia, in the city of Manresa, yellow balloons floated above the crowd as a sign of support for the independence leaders imprisoned for their participation in the path towards secession in the region.
In Barcelona, each king had his own carriage: Melchior was in a „magical garden“ made of fake giant leaves, Gaspar paraded aboard a red-painted chariot inspired by Japanese gardens, and Baltasar was accompanied by a Guinean singer.
