Police inspect the damage caused by a man who crashed into his car against the SPD headquarters on 25 December 2017 in Berlin
A 58-year-old man drove his car with gas cartridges and petrol jerry cans to the headquarters of the Social Democrats (SPD) in Berlin and later told police he wanted to commit suicide, the police said on Monday.
The incident occurred on the night of Sunday to Monday. Wounded and bleeding profusely in the head, the man, whose police do not give more details, had to be transported to the hospital.
A fire broke out inside the vehicle but was immediately extinguished by the fire protection system of the SPD building. The car had on board gas cartridges and petrol jerrycans.
The man also told police that they had previously dumped a bag containing flammable material in front of the CDU’s conservative headquarters.
