November was the month without tobacco
Month without tobacco is over! Anne and Blandine, two of the participants followed by AFP, have not completely stopped smoking, unlike the third, Jacques. But at the time of the balance sheet, everyone draws the reasons for pride of this past month.
– ‚Nothing is finished!‘ –
„It’s better but I have not stopped completely“: Anne, notary near Montbéliard (Doubs), is six cigarettes a day on average while she grill a packet and a half before the start of the month without tobacco.
„It depends on the days, my state of stress,“ she says. Stress is the main factor in his tobacco addiction: „I shoot a cigarette without even swallowing, there is no pleasure, nothing at all, it’s a matter of calming down“.
„I smoke especially at night, when I find myself chewing, I’m late in my work, it creates me crazy anxieties,“ says the mother of 44 years.
However, it draws a balance „quite positive“ of the past month, because it has reduced its consumption: „You must always congratulate yourself!“
She is still waiting for help from an acupuncturist. She had to consult him in November but was forced to postpone the appointment in mid-December. If it does not work, „it will be hypnosis“.
„I have to keep going, it would be too bad, stopping smoking is my goal,“ says Anne. „Nothing is finished!“
– ‚I should have stopped earlier‘ –
„It’s good, I will not do it again, I know it, I do not want it“: Jacques won his bet. „I’m pretty proud of myself, but I’m not going to campaign around for people to stop.“
„Sure, I should have stopped earlier.“ In the end, I do not find it so difficult, maybe it was also the right moment in my life, „says the bistro manager.
This 47-year-old Grenoblois has stopped without help. „In retrospect, the beginning was complicated even if I did not say it,“ he confesses. „I applied the Coué method, I needed to be hyperactive, to take care of myself“.
„It was a little nerve-racking for the first 15 days, but the other weekend I was with smokers and I could walk them on the sidewalk without disturbing me.“
So much so that he comes to be astonished by the behaviors that were his not so long ago: „When I see people smoking in the morning, like the guy who gets out of his car with a cigarette in his mouth, I say to myself + It’s not possible +! “
„There is still a void that is not yet filled, especially in the evening,“ concedes Jacques, before joking, in a burst of laughter: „I will perhaps replace the cigarette with a little rum … What if I became an alcoholic? “
– ‚Keep the reflexes‘ –
„Bad news: I started again, it must be three days,“ says Blandine, 34.
To avoid being tempted by smoking, this nurse in a prison had started an electronic cigarette in early November. „But I felt like my nose was dry, it was unpleasant,“ she says.
Result: „I told myself a little stupidly ‚Come on, I’m smoking a cigarette‘ and I’m back in it.“
Like Anne, however, she reduced her consumption: from fifteen cigarettes a day before the month without tobacco, she went to „two or three at night, not in the morning or the day.“
This is why „the balance sheet is not negative“: „A few months ago, it seemed insurmountable to spend whole days without smoking“.
„I do not want to resume my smoking as before, to fall back into the purchase of cigarettes every other day,“ says the mother of two little girls, who wants to „keep the reflexes“ in November: “ Yesterday, I wanted a cigarette, I resisted and I took a lozenge. “
„A small part of me would have wanted to stop, but I’m not so disappointed,“ smiled Blandine. „I’m proud of myself anyway!“
